Availability

When we talk about availability, what we mean here is in which states are these schools available.

If you went over the chart above, you’ll see that Colibri Real Estate offers its courses to more states, serving 35 states total.

A few of these states can also avail of other licensing courses, such as post-licensing and continuing education.

But let’s not forget Kaplan here.

Just because Kaplan Real Estate School only serves 26 states, doesn’t mean that they are less than Colibri Real Estate and shouldn’t be considered.

You need to be careful, though, as some of their pre-licensing courses in some of these states are only for brokers. So you have to check their website to make sure they have a pre-licensing course for real estate agents.

Course Options

Now, let’s talk about course options.

I’ve touched a bit about course options when talking about availability.

Since you’re only starting your real estate career, your main focus is going to be the pre-licensing course.

Lucky for you, both Colibri Real Estate and Kaplan Real Estate School often have pre-licensing courses available in the states they service.

Colibri Real Estate has several packages available for their pre-licensing course.

For example, in California, Colibri Real Estate has 4 different packages that vary in the features and add-ons they provide.

All their packages have a base course of the pre-licensing course, instructor support, and real estate eBooks. More advanced packages come with exam preps, Q&As with their instructor, and the list goes on.

For full disclosure of packages in each state they service, check out their user-friendly website.

Kaplan Real Estate School has several packages, too. But you have to be careful with what you pick because there are packages that can be in the $100 range and others at around $400.

Real Estate Comparison - Real Estate Express vs Kaplan Real Estate School Kaplan

What am I saying here?

Well, Kaplan Real Estate School has different ways of teaching the pre-licensing course.

There’s the usual online course where you go at your own pace. Then, there are also options for online study groups and live connections with classmates and instructors.

You guessed it! The ones with the study groups and live connections are the pricier packages. If you do better with this kind of learning environment, then the price will be worth it.

Also, it’s great that Kaplan gives you that choice.

User Experience

In this section, I’ll give you an idea of what you can expect when you sign up for the pre-licensing courses of both Colibri Real Estate and Kaplan Real Estate School.

Colibri Real Estate has a very good customer service team. They’re always there to help you out since they provide 24/7 live support.

As for their course, there is a good balance of videos, quizzes, and exercises that will help you retain information for your exam.

What Colibri Real Estate does well is to minimize the technical errors their students experience.

Kaplan Real Estate School, on the other hand, offers well-organized lessons, as well as mediums such as audio and video. This will help you digest and retain information quickly and easily.

There were a few disappointments from some students, though. They complain that the course has technical difficulties that make it hard to finish seamlessly.

Features

Here’s one of the most important aspects - the features.

Colibri Real Estate has a lot of features that you’ll find very helpful.

Yep, even when you just get the basic package, you already get 3 FREE eBooks!

Isn’t that a good deal already?

But of course, if you get the higher-priced packages, you get more than those books.

In some states, there’s a package called ‘Ultimate Learning’ and this is where you get to experience all that Colibri Real Estate has to offer.

The Ultimate Learning package has so many features: a pass or don’t pay guarantee, a 90-day boot camp, an exam-cram video (you’ll never know when you need this), and an instructor Q&A. There are more features in this package, but instead of me listing them all, you can check it out on their website.

Let’s move on to Kaplan Real Estate School.

Kaplan Real Estate School also has a lot of features in store for you.

Their basic package already has PDF textbooks and workbooks that will help you prepare for your exams. And yes, they have exam prep questions, too.

Most of their courses have an online study group and live instructor discussions. You have full access to real estate experts that discuss a wide range of topics all related to real estate.

Reviews

I know you love looking at reviews, so I compiled a few notable reviews from past students of Colibri Real Estate and Kaplan Real Estate School.

Here are some reviews from Colibri Real Estate students:

“The website is easy to navigate. The course information was explained in detail, and the instructors are there for any questions you may have. I have taken the salesperson courses, and now I'm working on the broker’s course. I love Colibri Real Estate and refer all my colleagues.”

And here’s another one:

“I passed the Michigan Salesperson Exam on the first try -- I felt very well prepared to take and pass the test -- no anxiety as I had used the review materials and completed the reading and quizzes.”

Here are some from Kaplan:

“I felt that your real estate education tool was very helpful and easy to follow and understand. I appreciated the fact that the practice exams provided clarification to the answers. This proved beneficial in a number of instances when the wrong answer was selected. The material provided allowed me to feel very comfortable with preparing for and taking the national exam.”

However, Kaplan received a few negative reviews. Here’s one:

“The exams and the guidance through the books is good, however, some of the books don’t tell you the specific topics that are asked by the exam.”

Alternatives

When it comes to schools offering pre-licensing courses, two alternatives come to mind - AceableAgent and The CE Shop

AceableAgent is one of the most convenient online real estate schools you’ll ever find.

What sets AceableAgent apart is their own app (yes, an app!!) where you can access all your courses.

Because they have an app, everything else is easier. You can just log in and out, without worrying about unsaved progress. The app will always make sure it saves where you left off.

The CE Shop should be considered if you want to have interactive real estate courses.

Courses are interactive and easy to understand. Each chapter is broken down into smaller sections, which allows you to digest and retain information better.

What’s more, each section is integrated with useful unit resources, providing students with more value and information.

Verdict

Based on the factors that we considered, Colibri Real Estate seems to have better options in terms of states, course availability, features, and packages.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that you should close your doors to Kaplan Real Estate School. They’re still great competition!

So it all comes down to you on what school fits YOUR needs and preferences.
