Post-licensing real estate course

A post-licensing course is a course you’ll have to complete after you’ve gotten your license. 

The course aims to give you a bit more intermediate-level information about real estate and consists of 48 hours of learning content.

Broker real estate course

A broker real estate course is entirely optional and most real estate agents never take it.

Continuing Education (CE) course

Continuing education courses are learning modules that you’ll have to complete every year to renew your license. These courses are required to get you up to date with the latest changes in laws and regulations about real estate in Kentucky.

Real Estate License Requirements in Kentucky

To get started with the pre-licensing course, all applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Complete a 96-hour pre-licensing course

Step 1: Take and pass an online real estate course

Take and pass an online real estate course

Before anything else, you’ll have to first apply for a pre-licensing course to get started with completing the educational requirements. In Kentucky, the pre-licensing course is 96-hours long.

Step 2: Complete a background check

In Kentucky, you’ll have to complete and pass a background check to be eligible to sit for the final Kentucky real estate exam.

Note that to be eligible to apply, you should not have any misdemeanors or felonies on your record committed in the past 5 years. Felons may still be eligible provided the Kentucky Real Estate Commission approves.

Step 3: Pass the final Kentucky real estate exam

After you’ve passed the background check, you’ll be allowed to sit for the final Kentucky real estate exam. The exam is going to be conducted by the PSI at a local examination center.

The test will consist of 130 questions and you’ll have 4 hours to complete them.

To apply for the test, you’ll have to fill out and submit the Kentucky Real Estate Licensing

Step 4: Fill out and submit your application

After passing the final state exam, you’ll have to fill out an application form and submit it to the Kentucky Real Estate Commission.

You’ll have to apply within 60 days of passing the Kentucky final real estate exam. Failure to do so means you’ll have to take the real estate exam again.

Step 5: Complete the post-licensing course

You’ll have to complete a 48-hour post-licensing course within 2 years of receiving your license. Failure to do so may result in your license being suspended.
