3 Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Idaho (2022) McKissock

McKissock Learning is considered the authority in online real estate appraisal education. Through the years, they have proven themselves worthy of being named the number one online real estate school in the US.

McKissock is perhaps the most experienced real estate school. And since they partner with other providers, they have a wide range of knowledge.

They also consistently update the coursework to make sure the students learn up-to-date information, industry trends, and developments.

Now, McKissock offers their Idaho courses in two delivery formats:

  • Online self-paced

  • Livestream

Online self-paced programs let you study whenever and wherever you want, while Livestream classes allow you to interact with your instructor as well as your fellow students all from the comfort of your home.

For the online self-paced programs, you can choose from 3 packages.

The Basics package, which costs around $800, includes all Idaho course requirements.

The Advanced Pro bundle, which costs around $1,050, contains printed textbooks as well as a weekly one-hour session with your instructor.

If you purchase the Unlimited Learning Subscription package, which costs $1,400, you get unlimited access to up to 300 hours of Idaho appraisal courses, professional development tools, monthly webinars, etc... for a whole year. You will also get to enjoy discounts from industry partners.

The Livestream packages, on the other hand, let you experience instructor-led virtual classes via WebEx. Course fees cost around $1,580 and include course textbooks, which will be shipped to your address.

McKissock offers everything you need to start and advance your career in real estate appraisal. The school tops our list, and we cannot recommend it enough.

3 Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Idaho (2022) Appraisal Institute

Founded in 1932, the Appraisal Institute is now one of the largest professional associations of real estate appraisers in the world.

It has more than 18,000 members in almost 60 countries all over the globe. The organization promotes equal opportunity in the appraisal field as well as professionalism.

The Appraisal Institute’s members are some of the most highly recognized appraisal professionals, with prestigious designations such as MAI, SRPA, SRA, etc...

Because its members have extensive knowledge, understanding, and experience in valuation, you will not only receive the best quality of education but also learn some tips and secrets from the industry experts themselves.

Appraisal Institute has a few drawbacks, though.

For one, the website isn’t that convenient. AI does not offer education packages, so you will need to search through their offerings to find the courses that will satisfy your requirements.

Also, you will have to view the courses individually to check the prices, details, etc...

It does have a search tool, though, which allows you to filter courses by delivery format, category, title, and more. You can also narrow down your list by selecting a price range, number of hours, and even instructor name.

Again, this is another online education provider that we highly recommend.

3 Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Idaho (2022) ASFMRA

The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers is a professional association with over 2,000 members all over the US. Its members hold high designations in their fields, having extensive knowledge in technologies and methodologies associated with their professions.

The ASFMRA offers a variety of education programs, including appraisal courses that are accredited by the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) and approved in Idaho.

The ASFMRA offers the complete qualifying education requirements for real estate trainee appraiser applicants in Idaho. On their website, you will find the details of each course, the required textbooks, duration, timetable, etc...

Currently, ASFMRA does not offer self-paced or on-demand appraisal courses. They only offer a virtual class option.

(You can reach out to them for information by calling (303) 692-1222.)

The downside with this is they do not offer much flexibility as classes are limited. The two 30-hour courses are taught over four days, and classes start at 8 AM and end at 5 PM. Students who get bored and distracted easily might not benefit much from this delivery method.

Nevertheless, the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers is a reputable organization, and its education programs are no doubt of high quality.

There are only a few online pre-licensing programs approved by the Appraisers Board in Idaho. Visit the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses Online Information page for a complete list of approved courses, including continuing education.

Real Estate Appraisal in Idaho FAQs

What are the levels of real estate appraisers in Idaho?

There are four levels of licenses for appraisers in Idaho:

  • Registered Trainee Real Estate Appraiser
  • Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  • Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  • Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

A trainee appraiser is someone new to the profession who works under a supervisor, either a Certified Residential or General Appraiser. This first stage of the career is to get the experience needed to secure a license.

What are the requirements to become a real estate trainee appraiser in Idaho?

To qualify as a real estate trainee appraiser in Idaho, you must first meet the following requirements:

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You must complete 75 hours of qualifying education, which must include the following:

30 hours of Basic Appraisal Principles

30 hours of Basic Appraisal Procedures

15 hours of National USPAP Course

  • You must pass the final course examinations for the above prerequisite courses.
  • You must identify at least one Supervisory Appraiser.
  • You must complete a supervisory-trainee course that complies with the requirements of the AQB.
  • You must register as a trainee within five years of completing the 75-hour education requirements.

No college-level education nor work experience is required for real estate trainee appraisers.

How long does it take to become a real estate trainee appraiser in Idaho?

As there is no state exam nor work experience required to become a trainee appraiser in Idaho, you can complete the requirements in two months or less.

However, if you want to achieve the minimum level of licensing, which is the Licensed Residential Appraiser classification, you will need to complete an additional 75 hours of qualifying education, and earn 1,000 hours of documented appraisal experience as a Registered Trainee Appraiser. This process may take one year or longer.

Conclusion

If you’re really passionate about starting (and succeeding in) a career in real estate appraisal, you will need to invest in the best quality of education.

McKissock, the Appraisal Institute, and ASFMRA are all reputable organizations that will not only allow you to meet the requirements but help prepare you for the responsibilities of a professional appraisal in Idaho.

Whichever school you choose will no doubt put you at an advantage.

Good luck!
