The training required to obtain your Texas real estate license is going to be long and yes, very boring. Nobody ever told me getting my real estate license would be easy and I certainly wouldn’t say that to you. It’s going to be tough. If you’ve decided to get your Texas real estate license online, it’s so incredibly important to sign up for the best online Texas real estate license training course you can find. Most online real estate courses in Texas are about the same price and appear to be very similar, but there are some fairly drastic differences between them.
My Friendly Warning To You – I have to be totally honest here. If you’ve decided to take your Texas real estate license training online, do not go into this with high expectations from course providers. Most of them receive poor reviews, are outdated, and they are very boring courses that mostly consist of walls of text. My course recommendations below aren’t based on how fun and modern they are, my reviews are based on how effective they are. I think there is a lot of room for improvement with these real estate courses, but this is what we’re stuck with for now.
The Top 3 BEST Online Texas Real Estate License Training Courses
There are quite a few state-certified real estate courses you can take online in Texas. While I’d love to cover them all (and maybe at some point I will), for the sake of my time and sanity, I’m only going to cover the 3 best online Texas real estate license training courses that I narrowed it down to. Are there other legit options available? Absolutely! These are just the 3 that I personally believe are best, with my highest recommended option listed first.
AceableAgent is without a doubt the best online real estate license course in Texas. Ironically enough, AceableAgent is also the newest online real estate training program to be approved in the state of Texas. You might think going with a more established course would be the best option, but this isn’t actually the case. You see, most of the online real estate courses that are already approved in Texas were created 10+ years ago, and while they’ve been patched and updated here and there over time, most courses are still very outdated. AceableAgent was just created last year, so it’s the most modern and updated course you can get in Texas.
What I really like about AceableAgent is the way the material is delivered. They have text, video, and even interactive features to help you retain information. They also have the best mobile apps for those who want to study on the go. If you sign up for their Career Kickstart plan, they even guarantee you’ll sell a house in 90 days. I don’t know of any other online real estate school in Texas that offers such a guarantee.
As a Texas resident, you might also like to know that AceableAgent is run by a company based right here in Austin, Texas. While Texas is a large state, it’s always good to help companies from within’ the Texas economy. As such, they also have a great customer service team based in their Austin office. This is one of the few courses that even offers tuition assistance if you need to spread your payments out.
The bottom line is, AceableAgent is the “new kid on the block” but they also happen to be the absolute best online real estate license course ever created. If a friend or family member asked me which Texas real estate course to sign up for, this would be it.
Up until AceableAgent launched, Real Estate Express was my #1 pick. This is actually the course I signed up for to get my own real estate license. The biggest selling point about Real Estate Express is their average student exam pass rate. These numbers are no longer published, but when I signed up the pass rate was 79%. This might not seem like a high number, but compared to the industry standard, it’s actually well above most other course providers.
They are of course certified in the state of Texas, offer practice exams, live weekly training, and you are given a dedicated instructor who you can reach via email or PHONE. This is another unique selling point to Real Estate Express as most other online course providers only have email support from an instructor with extra charges for phone calls.
Yet another selling point is the ability to spread your payment plan out over 3 installments. The cost for Texas courses as of this review ranges from $484 to $649 depending on the package you sign up for, so it isn’t cheap by any means. The ability to spread payments out over a few months is a great option that most other online real estate schools don’t offer.
As with most other online real estate courses, they do not receive very high reviews in general. As someone who has gone through the Real Estate Express course, I can attest that the course does feel a bit outdated. There are no videos, images, graphics, or anything else to really spice things up. Instead, it’s just wall after wall of text followed by 10 question quizzes that must be passed. However, this seems to be par for the industry and isn’t unique to Real Estate Express. All in all I’m quite pleased with the training offered through Real Estate Express.
Kaplan is a very well known and recognized online real estate license training program in Texas and it may be the most popular online course out there right now. With an average student pass rate of 76%, they are a bit below Real Estate Express but it is pretty comparable. Once again, as compared to the rest of the industry, their student pass rate is better than most.
There are several packages offered at Kaplan depending on your needs and budget. For example, you can sign up for a basic package which pretty much only gives you the required course material, or you can upgrade and get extra features. They offer packages that include very realistic practice exams to help you pass your exam on the first try. Also, their live training goes a bit above and beyond what many other online real estate schools can do. With Kaplan, you can also get access to live study groups as well as live instructor training. These live training sessions do not count towards your 180 training hour requirement, but it is a great supplement for the material you are learning.
Even with the lowest package they offer, you will get access to a personal instructor. As of right now, the only way to contact that instructor is through email. Response times are generally pretty decent, but you may have to wait up to 24 hours for a response. The good news is their instructors are industry professionals including authors and top selling real estate agents.
Course prices at Kaplan start at $389 and go up to $829 depending on the package you choose. All packages will fulfill the 180-hour training requirements, but the higher packages offer some additional perks and benefits that I recommend. Most students are able to get by with even their most basic training package, but the additional features that the higher tier packages offer are well worth the money in my opinion.
Once again, as is the case with just about any online Texas real estate license training course, the reviews found across the web are mostly negative. The number one complaint, just like almost everyone else, is that the course is outdated and needs to be updated. However, it should be noted that there are VERY few reviews of Kaplan’s real estate program online. They have been in business for decades with hundreds of thousands of students becoming real estate agents due to their program. It seems to be a case where the dissatisfied customers are much more vocal than the satisfied ones, and even then, there aren’t many trustworthy user reviews out there.
All in all, this is considered by many “in the industry” to be one of the best Texas online real estate license training courses available.
Bonus Review: Career Web School
Career Web School is another popular course that people take to obtain their real estate license in Texas. What I don’t like about Career Web School is their relatively low pass rate among students which is only 59%, far below the other two options I’ve listed here. Compared to the rest of the industry, this is a pretty average statistic.
Career Web School does offer practice exams and many of the other perks that come along with most real estate courses, but they do not offer much in the way of live training.
While you do get access to a personal instructor at Career Web School, you can only reach your instructor via email and sometimes response times can take 24hrs or more. Phone calls with instructors may be offered but they will charge extra for it.
The price at Career Web School is on par with the industry standard. The lowest plan to complete your full 180 training hour requirement is $479 with the highest priced package at $599. There is no tuition assistance available.
While this course has received similar reviews to the other two options I’ve mentioned, the reason this is my 3rd choice is because there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference with this program and they don’t seem to include anything “extra” such as the other courses I listed. With that said, this course is considered to be one of the higher quality real estate training programs in Texas. Do I think it is the best Texas online real estate license program available? Not really, but it should be considered as a possible option.

If you do fail, you are allowed to take the exam again, but you will need to pay another fee and you MUST pass the exam within’ 1 year of completing your training. If you fail the exam 3 times in a row, you will need to take another 30 classroom hours of training before you can take the exam again.
Get Sponsored – Once you have passed your Texas real estate license exam, you must obtain a sponsor from an active Texas real estate broker. You may not act as a real estate license holder without being sponsored by a broker.
Getting your real estate license will be an enormous benefit to your life, but it isn’t going to be easy. Finding the best online Texas real estate license training course is your first job. While there are many options available in Texas, the three real estate courses I provided above seem to be the best and most popular ones. Prepare yourself for the challenges to come, take it one chapter at a time, and you’ll get through this before you know it. Best of luck!!
