Do I need a college degree to become an appraiser in South Carolina?

A college degree is only required for the Certified Residential and Certified General categories. But note that this does not take the place of required appraiser courses. 

Do I need to undergo a background check if I am applying for an appraiser license?

Currently, the Real Estate Appraisers Board does not require a background check yet. However, they may require this in the near future for all licenses. Just keep in mind that if you answer affirmatively to the questions on an application, you are required to provide supporting documents and explanations.
