When it comes to working in the real estate industry, for a lot of people, including myself, California is a no-brainer state to get a license in. This is a state that, between San Francisco, Los Angeles and my home city of San Diego – it’s one of the best places in America to live. Because of that, many people, not just in the USA, but from all over the world, are in the market for property in California. And that means that a real estate agent can enjoy a pretty productive career in that state, provided they remember their California online real estate renewal, so they can keep working.
I know that for many real estate agents and other professionals in the industry, the training aspect of the job often seems like a hurdle, or unwelcome speed bump. But as a real estate professional, this is a necessity that you need to keep take seriously. Time, of course, is important in the real estate profession, and you have to be very careful about how you ration your usage per day, week, month and year. And with a California online real estate license renewal program, you need to make sure that you set aside enough time to meet the requirements.

California Requirements For Renewing A Real Estate License
A key aspect of being a real estate professional in California is getting your license. It’s a necessary, fundamental part of your ability to work in the industry. After all, real estate is a big business, and it involves people entrusting you to properly transact huge amounts of money. The state of California—as with all states in the country—requires that the people who handle these transactions, are legitimate. They can’t just be people who’ve walked in off the street calling themselves professionals and asking people to hand over hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars. You need to be certified and you need to have your license.
But that also means that, as with a driver’s license, you occasionally need to think about California online real estate renewal. According to the regulations of the California Bureau of Real Estate, a real estate license needs to be updated every four years. License holders will receive notification when this period is coming due. The renewal requires a total of 45 hours of study with a minimum of 18 of those hours devoted to consumer protection courses, while the remainder must be in some kind of continuing education in consumer protection or consumer service.

- Five separate three-hour courses in the following subjects: Ethics, Agency, Trust Fund Handling, Fair Housing, and Risk Management
- A minimum of 18 clock hours of consumer protection courses; and The remaining clock hours required to complete the 45 hours of continuing education may be related to either consumer service or consumer protection courses.
BROKERS RENEWING FOR THE FIRST TIME
Real estate brokers renewing an original license for the first time must complete 45 clock hours of CalBRE-approved continuing education consisting of:

The remaining clock hours required to complete the 45 hours of continuing education may be related to either consumer service or consumer protection courses.

Special Conditions For California Real Estate Licenses Issued Before 2008
The requirements for California online real estate license renewal are set in place only for the new agents entering into the field. The 45 hour requirement, for example, was only instituted for those people becoming agents after October 1, 2007. So if you’re like me, and you didn’t enter into the real estate industry back in the 20th century, then the odds are that this California online real estate license renewal course is going to apply to you.
Of course, a California online real estate license renewal class is a lifesaver here. Whether you’re taking the courses from the computer at your office, or at home, or even just skimming the material on your iPhone, California online real estate license renewal courses means you can schedule the courses to work with what’s most compatible for your schedule.

My Top Choice California Online Real Estate License Renewal Courses
Below are my personal favorites for those looking to renew their California real estate license online. These obviously aren’t the ONLY courses that exist out there, but they are the ones I can personally stand behind.
McKissock is a great school for people that are going for their California online real estate license renewal. The same level of service that students enjoy trying to start their careers is available for people who are going into continuing education in order to maintain that license. There are, however, some notable differences.
Real Estate Express has actually partnered with McKissock Learning to handle their California online real estate license renewal classes. As a result, prospective students get a breadth of options they might not be familiar with, including traditional, printed correspondence, if that’s the preference for getting the learning materials. They offer renewal courses for both brokers and sales peoples, for their very first renewal, or for subsequent renewal experiences. A variety of different classes are available that include packages that get the basics out of the way, as well as individual classes for more focused interests.
Another good option for California online real estate license renewal is Brightwood, that some may know better as Kaplan Real Estate Education. As with Real Estate Express, I’ve recommended this school before for people who are getting their license, and wanting to start their careers. But, as with Real Estate Express, their array of courses go beyond just people starting their careers, and they even offer instruction for other real estate related occupations, such as appraisal, home inspection and contracting.
For California online real estate license renewal, they have a suite of good courses, including some basic packages that have everything you need, neatly wrapped up in 45 hour courses. They also have other, smaller packages running at 15 hours each that run the gamut of different useful topics, such as taxation, repurposing property and even event marketing. So whether you’re looking for a complete package that gets your 45 hours out of the way as quickly as possible, or looking for additional professional development options, Kaplan’s got what you’re looking for.
