One of the things that first surprised me when I got into real estate was that, unlike other jobs, the real estate profession was a bit more like a trade, or highly placed academic profession like law or medicine. By that, I mean that this is a job that requires legal certification. It’s not like just opening up a home office, creating a website, plunging in some of your savings and calling yourself an entrepreneur.
To be a real estate agent means that you are dealing with some fairly significant assets. In this case, someone’s else’s property, and then transacting the mortgages that are involve when a purchase occurs. Because of the amounts of money, and seriousness of handling actual property, no one can just jump in and do this. And of course, in Georgia, you need a license, and, at some point, a Georgia real estate license renewal if you want to keep legally doing this job. Without that legal certification, you don’t have any authority to work or do business in the state, and that’s not just Georgia, that’s all the states.
I can see the logic why a Georgia real estate license renewal makes sense, especially when you look at the scale of the assets involved. It’s just professionally and legally responsible to make sure that people who handle real estate transactions are registered and accountable to the law, with a test that ensures a minimum amount of competency. But, like with a driver’s license, the passage of time can change a lot of things. This is especially true when you look at how even laws regarding property and real estate transactions can change with new developments.
That’s one of the reasons why a Georgia real estate license renewal is necessary. Like a driver’s license, a Georgia real estate license renewal is required at regular intervals. In this case, it’s every four years. But this doesn’t mean that you just renew your license at an office and you’re done. You need 36 hours of Georgia commission approved education to make sure you’re up to date on the latest in property law and finance. You also need three hours of education in license law. All of this needs to be backed up with some kind of certified proof from an approved school before you’ll get your Georgia real estate license renewal.
I’ve picked out three schools that I think will do a good job of this for people in the state. It’s just a matter of lining up the school to your preferences.

Real Estate Express is one of the biggest and most well regarded online real estate schools in the country. Fortunately, they are also recognized by the state for helping new people to get into real estate, as well as helping established industry veterans to obtain their Georgia real estate license renewal. One of the best things about this school is just how comprehensive it is. It offers different courses for different stages of your real estate career, and even different tiers of service depending on how much you’re willing to pay. They even have a special refund in place if you are doing well in your studies, with an 80% average or more, but then write the license exam and fail. That’s some nice added security.
One of the things that I like about their Georgia real estate license renewal program is that they take no chances and go 100% local. Real Estate Express has tied up with a sister company, McKissock Learning, and has handed over the duties of continuing education for Georgia real estate license renewal to them. The courses are state approved, cover many different topics, including the legally required ones, and, of course, are accessible 24/7 as long you have Internet access. There’s even student chat available if you have any specific questions.
Another school that I like to recommend for people looking at online Georgia real estate license renewal courses is Kaplan Real Estate Education, or Brightwood as they are transitioning into. Like Real Estate Express, this is another big, national level online school that caters to a lot of states throughout the country. But one of the things I really like about this school is that they take an even broader approach to real estate. It’s not just getting your license to sell real estate that Kaplan handles, if you want to learn about appraisal, home inspection, or even contracting, they offer these courses too.
Of course, for my purposes, here, we’re looking specifically at Georgia real estate license renewal courses. Like Real Estate Express, have a good mix of online courses to take, however, for people that live in the appropriate cities, they do have live classrooms to attend if you prefer traditional learning methods. You have different base choices that vary between 21, 25 and 27 hours of total instruction, but all of them are extremely useful for anyone looking to stay current in Georgia real estate.
The final online school I’d like to point out is Career Web School. This school, like the others, has a great online system, and if offers different tiers of service based on what kind of education you’re looking for. It’s also a fairly recent entry, which makes its user interface more mobile friendly for people that might want to peruse their courses on phones or tablets, which can be a big thing for some people. Like Kaplan, they also offer some alternatives within the real estate field, such as home inspection or appraisal, which can broaden your industry knowledge considerably.
Unlike the other two schools, Career Web School offers their courses directly, and they have a big range of different classes to take for people at the post license level. Mandatory Georgia real estate license renewal courses—like those for license law itself—are available at very low prices. But beyond just the mandatory courses, they’ve got great professional development options like looking at short sales and foreclosures, or covering the important differences that commercial real estate carries versus residential. Beyond just fulfilling your renewal requirements, a lot of these courses can significantly improve your professional knowledge and capabilities.
