The Requirements For A Real Estate License In Kentucky

Each state within the United States has its own real estate license requirements, and Kentucky is no exception. The requirements to obtain a real estate license in Kentucky include several different factors. The first requirement is that one must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent. However, if one does not have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, there is a loophole that can be observed to allow them to still go through with the pre-licensure process. 28 credit hours from a post-secondary institution can serve as a suitable substitute for high school diploma or GED, and that may be an avenue one would take rather than obtaining their GED.

The next requirement is the course credit hours in real estate education. Each state requires different credit hour numbers, and in Kentucky, the number is 96. From an approved and accredited online or in-person school, a person must complete 96 hours of real estate education before taking their real estate licensure exam and applying for the license itself. Like the GED or high school diploma requirement, there is also a loophole one may observe in this instance. Rather than 96 credit hours, a person may also choose to opt for 6 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university within the state of Kentucky.

Online opportunities make achieving these 96 credit hours simpler than ever. Courses like those offered at Colibri Real Estate allow working adults or young people who don’t wish to pursue a traditional college degree to become real estate professionals in their own time. For those who are working a full-time job, they’re not satisfied with, they can embark on a new career path with real growth potential without overfilling their already busy schedule. For those who care for children at home, they can have a career-ready and waiting for them when they’re ready to go back to work without taking away quality family time. Courses can be completed during your downtime, and you won’t need to worry about juggling in-person classes into your already full days.

Next, you’ll focus on the background check. Before ever taking your pre-licensure exam, you’ll need to be able to pass a background check to make sure you’re eligible for your licensure. Those who are currently incarcerated, on probation, on parole, or carrying out community service obligations will not be able to be issued a real estate license, and those convicted of certain past felonies or misdemeanors may also face issues with obtaining their license. The background check will ensure you’re able to apply for your license upon completion of your exam.

After passing your background check, you’re then ready to take your real estate licensure exam for Kentucky. In order to get a real estate license in Kentucky, this exam must be passed, and your application for a license must be filed within 60 days of passing your exam. If your application is not filed within this time frame, you will forfeit your exam scores and you’ll be required to pass the exam again in order to apply for your license. Exam prep courses can help you to feel more confident walking into your exam, as you cover information as much as you need until your comfort level with the material meets your satisfaction. These exam prep courses can be taken online and in your own time.

How Do I Keep My Real Estate Licensure?

Once you get a real estate license in Kentucky, you’re not forever finished with education or other requirements. Kentucky has some of the most stringent requirements for keeping your real estate license renewed and in good standing, requiring continuing education hours every year. The calendar year in Kentucky for real estate salespeople is considered to be January 1st through December 31st, and within this time frame, every practicing real estate salesperson must complete 6 hours of continuing education. If one fails to complete this continuing education, their real estate license will be considered no longer valid.

The continuing education one must take every year consists of 3 hours of real estate law, and 3 hours of a real estate topic of your choice. These elective hours allow you to pursue certain specialty fields within Kentucky real estate, so you can provide better service to the clients of your community. The CE Shop offers all of the courses you may need to renew your real estate license in Kentucky, as well as plenty of elective courses for you to choose from in order to learn more about specific real estate fields. These online courses give you the opportunity to study in your own time and take a simpler approach to meet your yearly renewal requirements.

For those just receiving their first real estate license in Kentucky, you are exempt from taking these continuing education courses during your first year. Each year following, however, these 6 course credit hours must be completed.

For working professionals, those with a passion for real estate, young adults, and parents, getting a real estate license in Kentucky using the benefit of online programs is a great idea. These programs give you a way to advance your career and personal growth without putting too much strain on an already packed schedule or taking valuable time away from families. With ample flexibility, you can be well on your way to a new career and bright future from the comfort of your own home.
