How to Get a Real Estate License Online in Delaware in 4 Steps

To get a real estate license online in Delaware, you need to follow these 4 steps:

  1. Complete the required pre-licensing education
  2. Pass the Delaware Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Exam
  3. Choose a Delaware sponsoring broker
  4. Complete your application for the real estate license

Let’s discuss these steps in detail one by one.

1. Complete the Required Pre-Licensing Education

Delaware requires all new real estate salesperson applicants to complete 99 hours of pre-licensing education from an accredited provider.

The purpose of the course is to prepare aspiring real estate agents for the job by providing a solid foundation of the basics of real estate.

The course includes topics such as:

  • Property valuation and appraisal
  • Contracts and agency relationships
  • Financing and real estate math
  • Property management
  • Licensing and statutory requirements

...and several others.

After completing the mandatory education, you will need to pass the final course exam by earning a score of 80% or higher.

If you’re looking for an online real estate school that offers state-accredited pre-licensing courses, then you should check out The CE Shop (more info about this school down below).

2. Pass the Delaware Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Exam

Next, you’ll need to take the Delaware licensing exam, which is administered by Pearson VUE.

The exam consists of 130 questions covering the state and national or general portions. You will take the exam on a computer, and you are allowed four hours to finish it.

To pass the exam, you need to score at least 70%.

3. Choose a Delaware Sponsoring Broker

After passing the exam, you will need to find a sponsoring broker. In Delaware, to be licensed, you must first be associated with an active brokerage firm or a sole proprietor.

When choosing a broker, make sure you find one with a solid reputation. Also, check whether they offer training and professional development, as well as other benefits, such as being able to work with your own schedule.

A good sponsoring broker will not only help you activate your license but will also open up opportunities for your career as a real estate agent.

4. Complete Your Application for the Real Estate License

Finally, you can proceed to complete your application for a license.

Delaware requires applicants to register via DELPROS. Simply go to their website and do the following:

  1. Create a DELPROS account
  2. Fill out the application form
  3. Upload all required documents on the attachment page (you can request a list of documents needed with DELRPROS). E.g. your pre-licensing certificate of completion
  4. Pay the license fees

Once they accept your application, you can then print your real estate license. You can do all this from the comfort of your home.

Overall, we think online real estate education is better because it is generally more affordable, plus they are self-paced. You can spend as much or as little time on learning as you want.

They offer flexibility and convenience and are often more interactive as they feature multimedia content.

However, we each have different learning styles and preferences, and some people may still find classroom education more efficient.

Online Delaware real estate pre-licensing courses typically cost from around $500 to $800, while classroom programs may be more expensive.

You will also need to pay the following when applying for and obtaining a license:

  • $69 exam fee
  • $131 application fee

Note that these fees are subject to change at any time.

How long does it take to finish online real estate school in Delaware?

It really depends on your pace. The courses are designed to be worth 99 hours, but you can complete them quicker or slower when done online.

Most online courses are valid for six months, and you can start slow if you prefer. Remember, though, that you need to finish the program before it expires to avoid having to request an extension.
