Let’s get into the details.
As you can see from the table above, Kaplan offers its pre-licensing courses in more states than OnlineEd. This makes it more available to aspiring real estate agents.
That said, OnlineEd is more focused on continuing education, with course availability in 18 states. So if you’re looking to renew your real estate license, then you just might find a course with VanEd.
Even if you’re going to be focusing on pre-licensing, it’s essential to know what other courses are available — just in case you need them down the road.
At Kaplan, most of the states with pre-licensing courses come with exam prep. The exam prep can be an on-demand set of materials or a live classroom. There are also flashcards included to help you prepare for the licensure exam.
If you’re planning to take Continuing Education (CE) courses for your license renewal, Kaplan offers that, too. For these courses, you have the option to use on-demand videos and interactive materials or basic text-based material.
NOTE: On-demand materials and live classrooms are not available for every state Kaplan serves.
Finally, if you want to switch to a broker license, then Kaplan has license upgrade courses for some states.
Besides pre-licensing, OnlineEd only offers CE courses, which is very limited compared to Kaplan’s complete array.
If you just want to study to succeed in the industry, then OnlineEd has career advancement courses in almost every state. This isn’t necessary, but it will be a great help.
As a student, you get more live interactions at Kaplan. This is thanks to its different learning formats (again, this is only available in select states).
You can choose to go with OnDemand, an interactive video course, Home Study, a text-based course, or Live Online, a Livestream class.
Whatever learning style you prefer, you can get it at Kaplan.
OnlineEd is a bit more straightforward — it offers text-based courses with bite-sized information and quizzes at the end of each module.
This is a great structure as it helps you refresh your memory and test what you understood from the lessons. However, you have to be great at self-study as you won’t have much instructor support.
As for the UI, both Kaplan and OnlineEd are easy to navigate. You shouldn’t have any problem here.
For what it offers, you can expect Kaplan to be on the more expensive side.
In California, there are so many packages with different price points.
Let’s take a quick look at them:
- Home Study Basic Package – $179
- Home Study Plus Package – $279
- Home Study Career Launcher Package – $479
- Home Study Carnegie Career Launcher Plus Package – $679
- OnDemand Basic Package – $399
- OnDemand Career Launcher Package – $599
- OnDemand Carnegie Career Launcher Package – $799
- Live Online Basic Package – $549
- Live Online Career Launcher Package – $749
- Live Online Carnegie Career Launcher Package – $949
As for OnlineEd, it’s a lot cheaper.
Here are OnlineEd’s package price points in California:
- Bronze Package – $99
- Silver Package – $204
- Gold Package – $264
So if you’re looking for something cheap, then OnlineEd is the better choice.
For each package, there are different features available.
Kaplan’s basic packages come with the essentials — your required real estate coursework, a study group, and live mentor help.
For its Career Launcher packages, you get an additional Real Estate Accelerator course. This will give you the knowledge you need to thrive in the real estate industry.
The Carnegie Career Launcher packages, meanwhile, include textbooks, an exam prep, and a Secrets of Success course.
Let’s move on to OnlineEd’s features.
The Bronze package is very simple — you get the courses you need, plus a printable certificate and downloadable ebooks.
As for its Silver package, you get instructor help and exam prep, while the Gold package offers physical textbooks as well.
You also get other goods, such as flashcards, downloadable PDFs, test stimulators, and more.
Don’t take our word for it. It’s a good idea to see what previous students are saying about both schools.
This is why, in this section, we’ve compiled a few reviews that can help you manage your expectations with each school.
Here’s what former students have to say about Kaplan:
“I liked the fact I was able to do it at my own pace. This real estate school was inexpensive, and the content was very thorough. I think it was good overall and doesn’t need any major changes, but they should just continue to make sure they are keeping the content up to date with the policies & legislation. If you choose doing courses online, make sure that you are a self starter, because otherwise, you won’t get done on time. Technical support was great. I was able to call & get any issues fixed in 15 minutes.”
Here’s another review:
“The system was very easy to use and effective! I have not been someone to be self taught when learning new things but I was able to this time and I feel it was due to the resources provided. Kaplan really needs to talk about the practice tests that are in their system and figure out how to get to them to improve them. Make sure you do the practice tests!”
Unfortunately, Kaplan also received a mix of bad reviews:
“I have take 3x tests and all of them I got exactly the same results and failed it. They do not let me check my answers. I believe their system change my answers. I just lost money and time with them. Their test-taking system was so problematic. The system was literally changing my answers.”
Here is one review for OnlineEd:
“I find the Online courses easy to enroll in, logically organized and easy to follow through. The information is clear and concise and the quizzes reflect the information that is contained within. I will definitely return to these courses that are offered when I need further education.”
And another one:
“The class was a good combination of quizzes/scenarios at the end of each lesson and overall information To help you gain the knowledge to pass the state test.”
For more, you can check out Kaplan’s Trustpilot reviews and OnlineEd’s Trustpilot reviews.
If you’re still open for recommendations, we recommend checking out AceableAgent and The CE Shop.
AceableAgent only services 10 states, which is a bit limited, but it has a great track record in providing modern and engaging lessons. It has several packages that already come with exam prep.
At The CE Shop, you have ebooks included in each program, plus a career guide and digital flashcards.
What we love about The CE Shop is that even on its basic package, there are LOTS of supplementary materials available.
If you’re interested, then go check them out!
