Do you want to do something different with your career?
This is a question I asked myself one day after realizing that a steady salary and some convenient employment benefits weren’t as fulfilling as I thought they would be. I worked a job where I had security, but it was also a job where I was working hard to make someone else money, while I got a fixed salary, no matter how much harder I worked.
If that’s the situation you’re in, and you want to try something different, then maybe, in the same way I did, you want to start thinking about getting a Houston real estate license if you live in that city. But what does it take to transition over to real estate? And why do you need to get a Houston real estate license anyway? I’ll show what the differences are between this occupation and your typical salaried job, so you can see just what a difference this kind of professional lifestyle can be.
The Good News & Bad News About Obtaining An Online Houston Real Estate License
If you decide to get a Houston real estate license, you need to understand that one of the single, most important character traits you can have is self-discipline.
A career in real estate means that there’s no such thing as a fixed amount of money you can count every single month.
The amount of money you make is entirely dependent on how good—or bad—you are at your job. If you decide to take the day off, you certainly can, but you may pay for it later. If you decide to put in those extra hours to nail the sale, it can pay off with a bigger commission.
But none of this can happen unless you get your Houston real estate license first. This isn’t like just deciding you want to start a business, where you need to invest some capital and open an office. In real estate, you deal with people, their hopes, their dreams, and a huge chunk of their finances, usually through a mortgage. Handling assets at that level requires legal accountability. That’s where your Houston real estate license comes in. Not only do you have to learn all the rules and regulations of real estate in Texas, you then have to prove your professional ability and competency by writing and passing a licensing exam. I’ve put together a list of the online schools that I think will boost your chances of achieving this goal.
AceableAgent
While AceableAgent is actually the most recent online real estate license course to be approved in Texas, this is by far my top choice. AceableAgent put millions of dollars into creating their online real estate license courses last year and they were just approved to sell their course in Texas for 2018.
So, why would I recommend the newest online real estate license course in Texas? Why wouldn’t I recommend courses that are more well-established? Because in all honestly, AceableAgent is the single best online real estate license course that has ever existed. Sure, they are new so they don’t have as much of a reputation, but I simply can’t recommend any other course above this one.
The way they deliver information is nothing short of revolutionary for the industry. Most online real estate courses are text-based, extremely boring, and make it very difficult to retain information. AceableAgent figured out how to change all of that. Their mascot, Ace, will guide you through the training from start to finish and the information will be delivered in multiple formats such as text, video, and even interactive features. The bottom line is if a close friend or family member asked me what the best online real estate course was, AceableAgent would be my answer without hesitation.

Colibri Real Estate
For anyone that wants to get their Houston real estate license but suffers from exam anxiety, I always like to make this particular recommendation. Colibri Real Estate is similar to the other schools in that this is online, and they even have tiers of service, so you can go for “no-frills,” or you can get extra special service that includes time with instructors, and even a real estate membership at the end of your course.
But where Colibri Real Estate really excels in their convenience. The tiers of service offer a lot—or a little—but it’s all contingent on what you’re thinking in terms of the support you want. Depending on the tiers of service that you choose, you can get a lot of additional coaching and support in preparation for writing your exam. And, at the higher tiers, there’s even an “If you don’t pass, you don’t pay” condition. This means that, if, after all the studying you’ve done, you do your best, and you still fail the exam on your first try, you won’t have to pay for the course at all. For people that are really concerned about passing their Houston real estate license exam, and wanting to boost their odds as much as possible, this is a good school to think about.

Kaplan Real Estate Education By Brightwood
If you’re like me, and you want to have as many options as possible for learning the ins and outs of real estate, then Kaplan Real Estate Education or Brightwood, as they’re starting to call themselves, might be the choice for you to get your Houston real estate license. It’s an online school, like the others I’ll cover here, so that means you have the luxury of signing on and learning things on your own schedule, at your own pace.
But one of the nice things about this school is just how broad they are in terms of your real estate education. You can sign up for the courses relevant to getting your Houston real estate license, but if you’ve got any passing interest at all in contracting, appraisal, or home inspection, they offer these courses as well. That means you can either learn other real estate-related professions or simply make sure you know much more about real estate than most of your peers to give yourself that industry knowledge edge when dealing with clients.

360 Training
360Training is one of the most preferred online real estate schools in Houston, Texas. They offer real estate pre-licensing, post-licensing, exam prep, and continuing education courses. They also offer other courses for different professions.
They are a popular option for those who are looking for affordable yet comprehensive courses. Also, 360Training is a good option for brokers who want to provide state-specific training to their agents. So, if you’re one of them, you should check out what they have to offer.
The program itself is mobile-friendly, easy to navigate, and user-friendly. According to commentators, they did a good job of repeating important information that may appear in the actual real estate license exam to help students master the lessons.
Their courses are available in individual courses and tiered packages. The courses are interactive and include additional study tools and resources.
Another worth mentioning is they have excellent instructor support compared to other online real estate schools. So, if you’re the type of person that may need extra help when completing the course, this is a plus for you.
Despite their popularity and excellent reputation, they tend to fall short when it comes to pass rates. According to TREC, their pass rate for Texas is only at 46.26% in 2022. This is much lower compared to the pass rates of other schools in this list. For instance, the pass rate of AceableAgent is 72.25%.
They scored 4.1 stars on Trustpilot, which is not that bad. Most positive reviews are about their informative and easy-to-understand courses. Furthermore, commentators found the knowledge retention tests and quizzes helpful.
But, that doesn’t mean that 360Training offers terrible courses. In fact, their programs are accredited by ARELLO and IDECC.
