Looking to earn your real estate appraiser license

Or maybe you already have one and it’s time for renewal.

In either case, you need to find the best online real estate appraisal school where you can get the coursework you need to meet state requirements and ace your exams.

That said, there are a ton of real estate appraisal schools out there.

It’ll take you too much time to scrutinize and compare one with the other.

That’s why we’ve done all the work for you.

In this blog, we list five of the best online real estate appraisal schools in 2023.

You’ll learn what’s inside each one, how much they cost, what you can expect by enrolling, and more.

Ready?

Let’s dive right in.

The Five Best Real Estate Appraisal Schools of 2023

Before diving into this list of the five best real estate appraisal schools of 2023, it’s important to remember that there’s no such thing as a single best real estate school.

“The best” to you might be a bad idea for someone else.

And vice versa.

That’s why we’ve created this list in no particular order, and gone the extra mile to add in as many details as we could.

In the end, it’s up to you to decide which school fits your specific needs.

So, are you ready?

We thought so.

1. McKissock’s Real Estate Appraisal Courses

Source: mckissock.com

McKissock prides itself with being the #1 real estate appraisal school in the country.

And it’s not just hearsay.

They have over 50,000 reviews from happy students to prove it.

Like this one.

Source: mckissock.com

But that’s not really surprising.

That’s because McKissock has been around for 30 years, helping real estate appraisers earn, renew, or upgrade their licenses.

To date, they have around 40 (and counting) real estate appraisal courses.

And they’re one of the few schools that offer appraisal courses in all 50 states.

So, what’s enrolling with McKissock like?

Easy as pie.

The first step is to determine your budget and how fast you want to complete your coursework.

For example, if you’re on savings mode, you can go slowly by taking individual courses at around $200-$300.

You can also buy a package, which includes all of the course material you need, plus instructor-led Q&A sessions, phone and email support, and certificates (these packages start at $1,680 all the way to $2,820).

Or you can go for unlimited yearly access, paying $1,699 to access all of McKissock’s training materials, plus professional development tools, instructor-led Q&A sessions, webinars, an online community, a free library of content, and more.

What’s great about all their packages is that you can choose which format suits you best.

If you’re a self-motivated student, you can go for their online packages and study at your own pace.

But if you work better with a sense of accountability, you can sign up for their livestream packages instead.

Overall, McKissock provides real estate appraisal professionals with all the materials and support to earn, renew, or upgrade their licenses.

2. VanEd’s Real Estate Appraiser Courses

Course: vaned.com

We get it.

Not everyone in the real estate space has a ton of cash.

Maybe you’re looking to earn or upgrade your appraisal license…but you’re on a tight budget.

If that’s so, you can go for VanEd’s real estate appraisal courses

VanEd offers individual courses for as low as $165 and packages for as low as $799. (Check their website for exact pricing, as it varies depending on which state you’re in.)

Best of all, they offer discount coupons of up to 20% off.

Not bad for people on a budget!

And if you’re worrying that low pricing means low quality, you don’t have to.

VanEd isn’t some shady school that’s here today, gone tomorrow.

In fact, it’s been around since 1997, and has helped 65,000 licensing students and 100,000 continuing education students since then.

As a VanEd student, you can either speed up or take your time on your coursework.

That’s because the school offers courses in an online format, allowing you to go at your own pace.

And if you’re worried that “online format” means you’ll be studying completely on your own…

…don’t be.

If ever you feel stuck, your instructors are always one call or email away.

Another great thing about VanEd is that aside from their real estate appraisal courses, they also offer exam prep, which you can get at a separate price or as part of your package.

Their exam prep courses include practice tests, flashcards, and an extensive term glossary.

The downside to VanEd is that not all their courses are available in every state. For example, they don’t yet have direct courses in Alaska.

However, they do partner with other schools, a great option for you if you’re looking for budget-friendly courses.

Check out their partner options in Alaska.

Overall, VanEd is the perfect option for students who want affordable but high-quality courses.

Of course, unlike McKissock, you won’t get premium professional development tools and the option to take your courses through livestream format.

But if you’re a hard-wired student who’s driven to accomplish your goals even on a budget…VanEd is the school for you.

3. Appraiser eLearning’s Real Estate Appraiser Courses

Source: appraiserlearning.com

Unlike the two schools we talked about earlier, Appraiser eLearning is a school that specializes in continuing education.

Yup.

If you’re looking for pre-licensing or exam prep courses, you should look somewhere else.

But when it comes to continuing education, Appraiser eLearning is quite spectacular.

According to them, they’re more than just an online learning platform.

They’re a community of appraisers with a mission to better the industry.

And they mean it.

What they promise is that continuing education with them won’t be drop-dead boring.

Instead, it’ll be engaging, entertaining, and even fun.

Plus, it’ll fit your schedule and learning style perfectly.

That’s because you can choose either their online format, studying on your own at your own pace…

…or you can join one of their LIVE virtual classes.

They also offer specialized training webinars that help you bolster up your skills and knowledge in the field. (Yup, you don’t have to take a whole course to become a much better real estate appraiser. Webinar topics include depreciated cost analysis, ANSI, square footage and standards, regression training, and a whole lot more.)

Another thing you’ll love is that they promise stress-free education to the working appraiser.

This means you won’t have to juggle between your job and your studies, as Appraiser eLearning’s courses will fit nicely into your schedule.

And if you’re unhappy with anything inside their courses, you’ll be given a full refund.

Pricing for Appraiser eLearning’s courses vary, from $74.95 for a four-hour course, to $229.95 for a fourteen-hour course. Their webinars retail at $29.95 each.

What’s great about Appraiser eLearning is that they’re laser-focused on continuing education the fun way.

What’s not so great is that they’re limited to CE and don’t have courses for all 50 states.

But then again, depending on where you are and what you need, maybe that’s a good thing.

4. Appraisal Institute’s Real Estate Appraisal Courses

Source: appraisalinstitute.org

Appraisal Institute is a little different from the other schools we’ve reviewed so far.

That’s because it’s not really an online learning platform.

Or at least, that’s just a small part of what it is.

Appraisal Institute is more of a networking platform.

It not only offers pre-licensing and continuing education courses for appraisers, but also membership to its diverse platform.

As a member, you can get considerable course discounts.

(For example, their 15-hour pre-licensing course retails for $360 for non-members, but only $315 for members.)

That’s not all, however.

As a member, you can connect with professionals in over 50 countries, expanding your network and bolstering your career.

Membership rates vary, from $240 per year to $485 per year.

However, if you’re a student enrolled in any college or university curriculum, you can become a member for free.

As for trustworthiness, you don’t have to worry about Appraisal Institute.

That’s because it’s been in business since 1932 and currently has 17,000 happy members.

So if you’re looking for a school that offers up-to-date appraisal courses and a huge network to improve your career, you can’t miss Appraisal Institute.

The only downside is that they don’t offer exam prep courses, and don’t have courses for all 50 states.

5. CompuCram’s Real Estate Appraisal Courses

Source: compucram.com

Unlike Appraisal Institute, which doesn’t have exam prep for real estate appraisers, CompuCram is all about prep.

In fact, according to them, they’ve manufactured a system that makes real estate appraisal exams super easy to ace.

They boast that over 500,000 students have passed their exams the first time because of their breakthrough system.

What’s the system like?

Well, it’s simply an integration of vocabulary tools, practice tests, and comprehensive stimulated exams that work together to help you ace your test.

The first step is to master the vocabulary using flashcards, fill-in-the-blanks, and matching.

Then, you’ll go through a practice test. This test is designed to help you gauge your own knowledge, plus absorb further knowledge by understanding why your answer was correct (or wrong).

Finally, you’ll go through an exam simulation. This simulation is designed to be exactly like the real test…with the same number of questions, question types, and time limit.

This three-punch combo is the reason half a million appraisers passed their exams the first time.

Plus, they have a Readiness Indicator that tracks your progress and gives you the green light when you’re ready to take the actual exams.

And if you don’t pass yours, you’re guaranteed a full refund.

Another thing you’ll love about CompuCram is that you can study their exam prep courses on your phone or tablet.

It’s perfect for people on-the-go, who don’t have the time to sit down at a computer.

As for pricing, CompuCram is affordable at only $149 for their exam prep course.
