If you’re interested to try your hand in real estate appraisal, the first step is to take the required 75 hours of qualifying/pre-licensing education. You also need to take an additional 4 hours of Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) approved Supervisory-Trainee course.

Since it must be done, you might as well get the best quality education in the state.

This is where we come in.

In this article, we’ll talk about the 4 best real estate appraisal courses in Arizona.

So shall we?

Here are the 4 best appraiser online education providers:

  1. McKissock
  2. Appraisal Institute (Arizona Chapter)

Let’s take a close look at each one.

McKissock

Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Arizona (2022) McKissock

McKissock is one of the authorities in online real estate education. It’s available in more states than most of its competitors, making it accessible to anyone pursuing careers in real estate.

Now, McKissock’s online appraisal programs are some of the best high-quality courses in the country. They are IDECC-certified, with an average of 4.52 out of 5 stars rating from over 14,000 customer reviews.

What can you expect with McKissock?

Well, they offer two types of education bundles:

  • self-paced online courses

  • Livestream packages

The self-paced online option lets you study whenever and wherever you want. It gives you the freedom of creating your schedule for the lessons. This will especially suit you if you are a self-sufficient learner.

The Livestream packages, on the other hand, provide a virtual classroom. It’s just like a classroom setup, with a live instructor, only you can study it from the comfort of your home.

This also lets you enjoy live Q&A sessions, as well as engage with your fellow students. So for the people that prefer a collaborative environment, this option is great.

As for pricing, the self-paced online packages cost from around $900 to $1,400 and will include the mandatory 79-hour qualifying courses for trainees.

If you opt for the premium bundle called the AZ QE Unlimited Learning Subscription, you will also get access to professional development tools, weekly live sessions with instructors, and webinars for one year. Plus, you get to enjoy partner discounts and save more than $2,000 on fees.

If you want, Mckissock also offers individual mandatory appraisal courses. You can choose from the online (around $200 to $400) or the Livestream format (around $600). They even have non-credit webinars for supplemental learning.

And as if it couldn’t get any better, McKissock is the official partner of The Appraisal Foundation. This means they provide the web-based versions of the 15-hour USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) and the 7-hour USPAP update courses.

Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Arizona (2022) Appraisal Institute

The Appraisal Institute (AI) is an association of professional real estate appraisers around the globe. It aims to promote professionalism and equal opportunity in the appraisal profession.

As an association, AI provides its members with several perks and benefits. Its members get access to insurance programs, tools, and resources, as well as get to attend conferences hosted by AI. They also get to enjoy discounts on courses offered.

Even if you’re not a member, you can still avail of their appraisal qualifying education, just without the benefits.

The one downside to signing up with the Appraisal Institute is its website isn’t too user-friendly. Unlike other real estate schools, Appraisal Institute does not offer education packages for different appraiser levels. Plus, you will have to view each individual course to confirm if it will satisfy your state requirements.

Nevertheless, AI is a well-trusted organization, and its courses are very high quality.

The list of available AI appraiser courses can be found here. While if you have questions, you can contact the AI Phoenix Chapter at (602) 284-6219 or send an email to aiphoenix152@gmail.com.

Note: Hondros has recently been part of The Colibri Group - the same family of education providers where McKissock is part of, in 2019. So you can trust that they are a trustworthy provider, although not that well known yet.

Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Arizona FAQs

Got some questions to ask about becoming an appraiser in Arizona? Check this FAQs section below.

What are the requirements to obtain an appraisal license in Arizona?

To become an appraiser in Arizona, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You are a US citizen or a lawfully admitted alien who is authorized to work in the country.
  • You must undergo a criminal background check through the Department of Public Safety.
  • You must meet the educational requirement for the level you are applying for. No college-level education is mandatory for trainee and licensed appraisers.
  • You must complete the required training hours for the level you are applying for.

How do you become a real estate appraiser in Arizona?

Beginner appraisers, also called Trainees, need to complete 75 hours of qualifying education as well as the National Appraising for the Supervisor and Trainee course.

The 75-hour QE consists of 30 hours each of Basic Residential Appraisal Procedures and Principles, and a 15-hour USPAP course.

The first two courses provide an overview of real estate valuation procedures, concepts, and their related subjects, while the USPAP course is the portion that satisfies the AQB’s requirements.

Upon completing the education requirements, the trainee works under the mentorship of a Supervisory Appraiser and earns 1,000 hours of work experience before they become eligible to apply as a licensed appraiser.

Do trainee appraisers make money in Arizona?

Yes. Trainees start working part-time and get paid on a per appraisal basis. For a job that doesn’t require much educational background and work experience, they make good money.

According to ZipRecruiter.com, real estate trainee appraisers in Phoenix, Arizona earn an average of over $27,000 annually. With experience, though, trainees get paid more.

Conclusion

You see, starting a career in real estate appraisal isn’t that complicated.

All you need is a few hundred bucks for the minimum requirements, time for studying and apprenticeship, and you’re well on your way to start a new and fulfilling career.

What makes it easier, though, is when you find a school that will meet your learning style, and preferences, as well as prepare you for the job.

And, to be sure, the schools we mentioned above offer the best real estate appraisal courses in Arizona this 2023.
