The 3 Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Minnesota

Here are the 3 best real estate education providers in Minnesota:

  1. McKissock

  2. Kaplan Real Estate Education

  3. Hondros College

Let’s discuss each one!

McKissock

Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Minnesota (2022) McKissock

McKissock is one of the most reliable and widely-known online real estate education providers.

With over 30 years of experience, they have established a proven track record and helped thousands of professionals succeed in their chosen real estate careers. The same is true for appraisers.

Now, they offer 3 packages for Minnesota’s appraisal qualifying education (QE):

  • 75-hr Basics Package for $799.95

You’ll get the basic course requirements in this package, including the USPAP.

  • 75-hr Advanced Pro Package for $1049.95

Aside from the basic course requirements, you’ll also get weekly Q&A sessions led by your instructor. Printed textbooks for the course are also included.

  • MN QE Unlimited Learning Subscription for $1399.00

This 1-year subscription allows you unlimited access to all appraisal courses in Minnesota. In addition, you also get monthly seminars, weekly Q&As, tools for professional development, content library, discounts, and more!

What’s more, you’ll save up to $2,800 by availing of this package!

Aside from these packages, they offer individual online courses to fulfill the education requirements for the higher appraisal licensing levels.

Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Minnesota (2022) Kaplan

Another reliable and leading real estate education provider in Minnesota is Kaplan. You’ve probably heard of this school once as it’s a household name in the country.

What’s great about Kaplan is that their courses are delivered by online live classes led by Kaplan’s notable instructors. It will just be like a classroom lecture, only this time you can attend from home and in your pajamas.

What’s more, course content is always up-to-date and includes important details. They also allow their instructors and students to engage with each other outside classes. You can contact them any time if you have any questions.

The downside is that they don’t have the complete 75 hours of appraisal QE. They only offer an Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) approved 6-hr Minnesota Supervisor course ($89) and the 5-hr USPAP course ($329).

If you go for this provider, then you’ll have to get the Basic Appraisal Principles (30hrs) and Basic Appraisal Procedures (30hrs) elsewhere.

Still, if you want direct contact with your instructor and up-to-date content, then this is a great provider.

Best Real Estate Appraisal Courses in Minnesota (2022) Hondros

Another great real estate appraisal course provider in Minnesota is Hondros College. You can be sure that they only offer high-quality course materials.

And, just like Kaplan, they have one of the most excellent and reliable instructors who provide fresh content.

Though they provide all the required 75 QE hours, you have to get the courses individually. And, since these cost around $200-400 each, it might come out a bit expensive.

But don’t worry. You don’t have to risk it. This is because Hondros College offers a course demo to help you see how their platform works first.

With this, you’ll be able to test their courses and see if it’s worth the price.

Real Estate Appraisal in Minnesota FAQs

Can I Take Real Estate Appraisal Courses Online in Minnesota?

Yes, you can!

Most people prefer taking appraisal courses online because it’s more convenient and they don’t have to adjust their daily routine and schedule.

What’s more, online courses are cheaper and faster! This is perfect for people who are on a budget or people who are busy and have difficulties balancing work and life.

The only downside of online classes is the lack of face-to-face interaction. However, many online schools also offer LIVE classes, so that solves that.

What are the Requirements to Become a Licensed Appraiser in Minnesota?

Trainee Appraiser

The first step in your career as an appraiser is to become a Trainee Appraiser, wherein you’ll be trained and guided by a Certified Appraiser.

For this level, you must meet the basic requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have a valid Social Security Number

Since you don’t need any prior experience, you just need to finish the 75-hour Qualifying Appraisal and an AQB approved 6-hr Minnesota Supervisor course.

Once you submit your application to the Minnesota Department of Commerce and pass the Trainee Appraiser Exam, you need to find a Certified Appraisal who will be your mentor.

Licensed Residential Appraiser

To upgrade your appraisal license, you must meet the basic requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have a valid Social Security Number
  • Have an Associate Degree or higher. Another option is to complete 30 semester credit hours that cover specific subjects

Once basic requirements are met, you should have at least 2000 hours of appraisal experience acquired over 12 months. You’ll also need to complete the 150-hour appraisal qualifying education course.

If you already fulfilled the working experience and education requirements, apply to the Minnesota Department of Commerce and pass the Licensed Residential Appraiser Exam.

Certified Residential Appraiser

You must meet the basic requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have a valid Social Security Number
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher

Once basic requirements are met, you should have at least 2500 hours of appraisal experience acquired over 24 months. You’ll also need to complete the 200-hour Qualifying Appraisal course. Then, you’ll need to apply for the license and pass the Licensed Residential Appraiser Exam.

Certified General Appraiser

For the highest appraisal license, you must meet the basic requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have a valid Social Security Number
  • Have Bachelor’s Degree or higher

You should also have at least 3000 hours of appraisal experience acquired over 30 months. Plus, you’ll need to complete the 300-hour Qualifying Appraisal course.

And again, apply to the Minnesota Department of Commerce and pass the Licensed Residential Appraiser Exam.
