To become a real estate appraiser in New York, you must first complete the education required for the license level you are applying for. You must apply with the NYS Department of State by completing the appropriate form available on their website

In New York, you must complete the first phase which is to become an appraiser assistant/trainee. 

What are the education requirements for an appraiser assistant in New York?

The state of New York requires all new appraiser assistant applicants to complete 79 hours of qualifying education. It consists of the following:

  • 30 hours of Basic Appraisal Principles (R-5)
  • 30 hours of Basic Appraisal Procedures (R-6)
  • 15 hours of National USPAP
  • 4 hours of Supervisor-Trainee Appraiser Course
